How to request a letter of rec from me

Yes, I often write students letters of recommendation for your study abroad programs, RA-ships, internships, jobs, professional schools, and awards.   If you have taken my courses and would like to make an inquiry, please email me at helen-dot-marrow-at-tufts-dot-edu.  If I feel that I know you and your work well enough to write you a strong letter of recommendation, I will accept and then ask that you send me the following materials at least 2 weeks in advance of their deadlines:

  • Names of the positions or schools you’re applying to, with very clear directions for who, where, and how to submit each of them, and by what deadlines.
  • A copy of your current resume or CV, plus your Tufts transcript (informal is fine) if you have a copy of it.
  • Any copies of your application essays or materials. Formal and polished is best, but I will accept them even in draft form, and at the very least I need a short explanations of why you are interested in these positions or programs. I do not grade these, but I like to skim them so I can understand why you are interested in the positions or schools to which you’re applying, and thus craft stronger letters for you.
  • Any copies of written work you produced for my courses (for examples: your final paper in Soc 102, your final paper in Soc 190, your video essay assignment in Soc 1, your statistical profile or assimilation essay or interview essay for Soc 70, any of your written assignments for Soc 72).  I have your grades already, but it’s nice to remember the topics you wrote about and to be able to provide more detail on them.
